Talk of the Town

Welcome to Talk of the Town! Each week, we will provide a comprehensive summary of major events, decisions, and discussions that took place in Excelsior Springs. We’ll highlight public comments, social media interactions, and responses from local leaders to give you a well-rounded view of how these stories are impacting our city. We would love your feedback!

Top 3 Stories from Last Week:

Posts that got you talking:

Orange cat sleeping in a chair

Theresa heard from her neighbors after posting this picture of an orange cat that has been showing up at her house frequently. Turns out, the whole neighborhood has been feeding him and no one knows where he belongs. He’s been showing up on Ring doorbells and one house has even set him up an outdoor cat house! If he’s yours, you might reach out to Theresa!

McCleary Turn Lanes

With so many accidents occurring lately near the McCleary intersection at 69 Hwy, the Excelsior Springs Police Department posted this map and explanation, which drew a lot of discussion. Many took it as an opportunity to slam citizens as a whole, claiming they don’t know how to yield or drive in general. There was a call to bring Drivers Education back to the schools and many expressed concern about driving North of McCleary toward 69 Hwy. Since the new QT has changed the intersections, it has been difficult for the public to get used to the new layout, or even agree on it.

CitySaver Thrift Store’s owner Doug Perry came to the group to make a plea to help their store from closing. Many expressed that they were not religious but saw the value that this business is giving the community by offering food. Quite a few posted that their own families had been helped without judgement. When concerns about expiration dates came, it was explained that the expiration date and good by date are two separate things.

Excelsior Only please

There have been a lot of posts lately that are for outside the area of Excelsior Springs. When the group was started originally, it was the “Excelsior Springs Area News, Events, and Daily Deals” and was meant for the business community, specifically Excelsior Springs Chamber members to promote to a local audience. This included the rural cities directly surrounding us: Mosby, Kearney, Lawson, Richmond, Orrick, Lathrop, and Missouri City. Many expressed their disappointment in allowing these other communities to post, wanting the space for Excelsior Springs only.

Every now and then someone will ask a question that opens up the gates for requests of businesses to come to the community. Popular places always listed include Wendy’s, Chipotle, In a Tub, and some just wanted a Burger King to come back! Someone rumored that Jimmy Johns is coming.
