Update 12/11/24 – 3:46pm – The Clay County Sheriff’s Office has reported that deputies located and arrested Matthew Robinson in Independence this afternoon.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating Matthew T. Robinson, 41, of Excelsior Springs, the second suspect in a series of package thefts that occurred over the Thanksgiving holiday and the weekend that followed. Robinson is wanted for one count of felony theft and one count of felony possession of a controlled substance, the same charges faced by his accomplice, 24-year-old Kayley Worthington, who was arrested earlier this week.
Robinson, who also has multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest, was reportedly at a residence in Excelsior Springs when deputies arrested Worthington on Monday. However, Robinson managed to escape before law enforcement arrived. Authorities served a search warrant at the home, recovering 51 stolen items and methamphetamine.
Sheriff’s investigators began their probe into the thefts after receiving numerous social media reports about stolen packages in Liberty, Smithville, and Kansas City North. Through collaboration with local police departments, they identified Worthington and Robinson as suspects. As of now, detectives have identified 12 victims, though many of the stolen items remain unclaimed.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is urging Clay County residents who had packages stolen between November 29 and December 1 to file a police report if they have not already done so.
Anyone with information about Robinson’s whereabouts is asked to contact the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477). Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
