Sanson Award

July Curb Appeal Winners

Gary and Kim Sanson celebrate winning the Curb Appeal Award from Thrive Excelsior

The Communities of Excellence program is an initiative through the City of Excelsior Springs that provides an opportunity to make and direct change taking place locally. One of the goals for the program is to work on housing in town. The goal is stated on the committee’s website as:

“Expand access to affordable housing by developing additional workforce housing in the community and by providing financial education programs for first-time home buyers and residents.”

In an effort to encourage residents to make improvements to their properties, the committee has established the “Curb Appeal Award“ that is presented to a new family each month! Nominations for the award are submitted by neighbors. The committee is also rotating the areas eligible throughout town so each area has an opportunity to be recognized.

This month Gary and Kim Sanson were chosen for an award! When they were contacted and said their house won an award, Kim said, “Which one!” That’s because Kim is a realtor and she and Gary have multiple properties around town!

You may remember Kim and Gary’s amazing renovation of the old Brunke Hardware building downtown on Thompson Avenue. Then there are all the historic properties on the East end of Broadway that they’ve been renovating and restoring. They’ve also saved a home on Benton the past few years. Excelsior has a lot to thank the couple for all the improvements they’ve been helping with around town!

Many thanks to Mayor Pro Tem Sonya Morgan for being the sponsor for this month! She offered a Chamber gift certificate, available to use with any Chamber business in the community.
