Liberty, Mo. (January 15, 2025) — The Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District, will hold oral arguments on February 5, 2025, at William Jewell College’s Yates-Gill College Union. Proceedings will begin at 9 a.m. and feature a three-judge panel hearing four cases.
Presiding over the panel will be Judge Cindy Martin, joined by Judge Gary Witt and Supreme Court of Missouri Judge Zel M. Fischer. All three judges are alumni of William Jewell College, with Martin graduating in 1981, Witt in 1987, and Fischer in 1985.
The cases scheduled for argument include appeals involving second-degree murder, driving while intoxicated, and employment retaliation. Notable among them is the case of Jenna Boedecker, convicted of murder and child endangerment following the deaths of her children in a hot car in 2018, and the Missouri Department of Corrections’ appeal of a hostile work environment judgment.
Following the session, the judges will engage with the audience, discussing the court system and addressing questions. The initiative is part of the court’s tradition of holding sessions in various communities to promote public understanding of the judiciary. The Western District, headquartered in Kansas City, serves 45 counties across northwest and central Missouri.
