The once-beloved John’s Super grocery store, which closed its doors at the end of 2018, is undergoing a transformation. After serving briefly as office space for a storage facility, the iconic building has been purchased by entrepreneur Amir Raza, who is set to revitalize the space as a Fast Zone Convenience store.
John’s Super, a landmark in the community for decades, was a favorite among locals for its convenient access to groceries and quality fresh cuts of meat. Its closure left a void in the downtown area, which Raza plans to fill with a modern twist. The new Fast Zone Convenience store aims to cater to the needs of today’s Excelsior Springs residents, offering a broad array of products ranging from everyday staples like bread, milk, and eggs to a variety of household essentials.
Beyond the basics, Raza’s establishment promises to keep shelves stocked with a diverse selection of beverages, featuring various sodas, beer, and liquor, catering to the tastes and preferences of all its patrons. The initiative to bring such a store to downtown Excelsior Springs reflects a broader trend of revitalizing historic spaces to meet contemporary needs while preserving the area’s charm and heritage.
Raza’s vision for FastZone Convenience does not stop at groceries and household items. If the venture proves successful, there are goals to expand the offerings further to include gas pumps and to-go pizza options, enhancing the convenience factor for residents and visitors alike.
A business associate of Mr. Raza shared that while a definitive timeline for the store’s opening has not been set, the team is working diligently with the goal of welcoming customers in early spring. The anticipation is building among locals, who are eager to see the transformation of the storied building and once again to have a convenient downtown spot for their shopping needs.
