Soccer Tigers Bounce Back With 2-0 Win After Tough Loss to St. Pius X

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, Mo., Sept. 24, 2025 — The Tiger soccer team split a pair of matches last week with a loss to St. Pius X and a win over the Winnetonka Griffins.

The defensive side of the field was busy in a 2-1 loss to the St. Pius X Warriors on Sept. 22. Junior Brett Jones was active in goal, making 22 saves in the loss. The Warriors opened scoring in the seventh minute with a penalty kick to take the lead. Sophomore Tyler Wartner tied the match in the 61st minute off an assist from senior Brady Schoonover. St. Pius X scored the deciding goal in the 74th minute to secure the win.

The Tigers bounced back with a 2-0 victory over Winnetonka on Sept. 24, earning their second Suburban Blue Conference win of the season. Jones was solid once again, collecting six saves in the shutout, his fourth of the season.

After a scoreless first 55 minutes, sophomore Colten Smith found classmate Lane Collins in the 56th minute to give Excelsior Springs a 1-0 lead. Schoonover added an insurance goal in the 73rd minute to seal the 2-0 win.
