Masters and Makers: Baker Lauren Jones, Little Bird Bread Co.

Excelsior Springs, Mo. – Little Bird Bread Co., founded by a passionate local baker, Lauren Jones, is gaining a loyal following one loaf at a time.

Lauren is a cottage baker specializing in sourdough creations, making everything from sourdough bread to scones, muffins, cookies and more. The simple yet inviting menu offers a taste of comfort with a twist of freshness that locals can’t seem to get enough of. Her Valentine’s menu sold out of macarons in just twenty minutes.

Baking has always been part of Lauren’s life, from childhood days spent in the kitchen with her grandmother’s recipes to her recent exploration of sourdough. “I’ve always been a baker, not a cook,” she explained. “I grew up baking cookies, brownies, and other sweets, and about four years ago, I started working with sourdough. Experimenting with new recipes and methods, and then sending them with my husband to work, I was encouraged to start selling them! So, I researched, gathered up my favorite recipes and dove right into Little Bird Bread Co.!”

What started as a personal passion has turned into a thriving business that brings homemade joy to the community. “I enjoy it,” she shared. “Baking, trying, and tweaking new recipes is fun! It’s therapeutic. Plus, giving gifts is one of my love languages, so it’s fulfilling to provide something people love and enjoy.” The added bonus? Her products are healthier than many store-bought alternatives, making them a delightful treat for both the taste buds and the body.

Little Bird Bread has now been an official business for a year, transforming what began as a “let’s see what happens” venture into becoming a reliable provider of fresh, homemade goods to Excelsior and the surrounding communities.

If you’re looking to try these irresistible treats for yourself, Lauren makes it easy to enjoy freshly baked goods. With an online menu that opens every Saturday morning, pre-orders can be made and then picked up the following week at Lauren’s home. The menu is updated regularly, and everything is made fresh to order. Little Bird Bread’s menu can be found at www.hotplate.com/littlebirdbread, and updates are regularly posted on social media. You can also sign up for text message reminders when the menu opens so you can be sure not to miss out on anything!
