Lady Tiger Wrestling Earn Dual Win, Medal at GKCC Tournament (Jan. 15–16)

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, Mo. – The Lady Tiger wrestlers defeated the William Chrisman Bears and competed in the Greater Kansas City Conference Tournament on January 15 and 16.

The Lady Tigers earned a 51–12 victory over William Chrisman on January 15. The Bears were open in six weight classes, giving the Lady Tigers 36 points, while both teams were open in three different weight classes. The Lady Tigers won four of the five contested matches on the night.

Sophomore Bristol Sharp earned a medical forfeit win at 100 pounds. Senior Lillah Shue followed with an 8–5 decision victory at 115 pounds. Sophomore Lilly Goetz secured a win by fall at 120 pounds after 3:11. Sophomore Kylee Jesse closed the dual with a 45-second fall at 125 pounds in the final match on the mat.

The Lady Tigers then traveled to Belton High School for the Greater Kansas City Conference Tournament, where three wrestlers earned medals. Shue led the team with a second-place finish at 115 pounds. She opened the tournament with a second-period fall over Dillan Piersel of Park Hill South after building a 7–2 lead. That win advanced her to the quarterfinals, where she defeated Abigail Cairns of Grain Valley with a fall 38 seconds into the match.

In the semifinals, Shue faced Abby Donovan of St. Joseph Central in a tightly contested match. Shue escaped with five seconds remaining in the third period to force overtime. Neither wrestler scored until triple overtime, when Shue earned an escape to advance to the championship match. She faced Anh Ago of North Kansas City in the finals and finished second after a loss by fall.

Goetz finished third at 120 pounds with a 3–1 record. She opened with a fall over Paris Showmaker of Blue Springs South before dropping her second match by fall to Da’Neya West of William Chrisman. On the backside of the bracket, Goetz defeated Sophie Horton of North Kansas City with a second-period fall to advance to the third-place match. She built an 8–1 lead over Danielle Totten of Raymore-Peculiar before securing another second-period fall to claim third place.

Sharp posted a 3–1 record at 100 pounds but was forced to medically forfeit the third-place match due to injury, finishing fourth. She opened with a fall over Brielle Rash of Raymore-Peculiar at the 1:15 mark of the first period, followed by a 9–2 decision over Lexi Newman of Fort Osage. Sharp then lost by fall to Lilly Breeden of Liberty in the semifinals before rebounding with a 17–2 technical fall victory over Rebecca Lafollete of Kearney to advance to the third-place match.

As a team, the Lady Tigers scored 65 points to finish tenth overall. Fort Osage won the team title with 179 points, followed by North Kansas City with 138.5 points and Belton in third with 123 points.
