Excelsior Springs, Mo. — The Excelsior Springs School Board held a special open session meeting via Zoom on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., during which board members unanimously accepted the resignation of Vice President Troy Snelling.

Jill Evert, who has served on the board since August of 2022, was unanimously selected as the new Vice President.

The meeting, which was brief and to the point, focused on addressing the leadership vacancy left by Snelling’s resignation, which came amid controversy surrounding his social media comments. The remarks, brought to light last Thursday, included comparisons of supporters of President Donald Trump to Nazis, sparking significant backlash.

The board did not vote on how to fill the now-vacant board seat, as some had anticipated. Instead, School Board President Tray Harkins explained that the board would take additional time to fully explore the options available to them before making a decision at their next meeting, scheduled for February 11, 2025.
