Canadian Pacific Kansas City Holiday Train to Bypass Excelsior Springs This Year

Holiday Train

Holiday train enthusiasts in Excelsior Springs may be disappointed this year, as the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Holiday Train appears to be taking a route that bypasses the city, traveling instead through the outer areas west of town via Mosby on its journey toward Kansas City.

The annual tradition, known for spreading holiday cheer and raising donations for local food banks, typically draws large crowds in every community it passes. However, this year’s adjusted route leaves few viewing options for local families.

With the train going through Mosby, there’s no safe area for pulling over to watch the train as it goes by. Citizens are encouraged instead to go north to Lawson and watch the train as it comes through their community before switching lines.

The Holiday Train will depart Chillicothe following a special performance featuring Smash Mouth and JJ Wilde, both traveling on the train for its holiday tour. The group is expected to leave between 3:00 and 3:30 p.m., placing the train’s arrival through the greater Excelsior area around 4:00 to 4:30 p.m.

Further information and interactive maps can be found online at the CPKC Holiday Train webpage.
