yard waste drop off site

It is officially springtime in Excelsior Springs, and with it comes the age-old practice to refresh our homes and cycle through unwanted items. To help in decluttering, the Public Works department has reopened their yard waste and bulky item drop-off sites. Starting on March 1st, 2025, community members are invited to dispose of natural debris and large, non-hazardous items responsibly.

Yard Waste

Seasonal Hours of Operation: Starting March 1st (Open to Saturdays – WEATHER PERMITTING – Closed if snow on the road)

April 4th thru November 30th will open Friday, Saturday, and Sundays (Closed May 26th, Sept 1st, and Nov 23rd and 30th for Holiday)

This season, the collection center is continuing to offer its yard waste services, which includes organic materials such as:

  • Leaves
  • Branches
  • Grass clippings
  • and more

Unnatural materials, such as bags, trash, or treated lumber will not be accepted. Fees are determined by the size and volume of waste. For more detailed information on price, please see the fee schedule below.

Keep in mind that any fees assessed for yard waste or bulky items are to be paid in cash only, as the department does not accept check or card payments.

Bulky Items

Open Saturdays, between March 1st and December 20th, 2025 – 9am – 3pm

Need to clear out the larger items that have accumulated over the cold months? Excelsior Springs also offers bulky item disposal next to the yard waste site, with its own fee schedule and hours of operation. The items they accept include:

  • Furniture (couches, chairs, tables, televisions, lamps, mattresses and box springs)
  • Carpet and padding
  • Building and Construction materials (scrap wood, untreated lumber)
  • Scrap metal of any kind

There are some items that don’t make the cut and are not accepted by the facility. Hazardous waste like paints or oils, tires, rocks, dirt, brick, and shingles will be turned away.
