Woman Remains in Critical Condition After Nov. 1st Apartment Fire

Desiree Byas, 24, the victim of the recent apartment fire on Excelsior Street, is currently in critical condition at a local hospital, her family has confirmed. Byas, who suffered significant lung damage due to smoke inhalation, is facing a challenging recovery period.

“There is still a long road ahead, but the family is grateful for all the prayers and support Desiree has received,” said Marvin Byas, Desiree’s brother, expressing the family’s gratitude amid these trying times.

In response to the tragic event, a GoFundMe campaign was launched earlier this week to assist with Byas’s mounting medical expenses and the replacement of personal belongings lost in the fire. Those wishing to contribute can do so at https://gofund.me/0031018b.

In a more positive development, Byas’s cat, Little Miss, has fortunately made a full recovery and is now safe with family members.

The fire, which originated in the kitchen of Byas’s apartment, led to the evacuation of the entire building. Byas reportedly suffered injury and had to be rescued after she re-entered her smoke-filled apartment to try and retrieve her beloved cat.

Further updates will be shared as more information becomes available regarding Desiree’s condition and the ongoing community support efforts.
