Excelsior Springs Ultrarunner and all-around good guy, Russell Wenz is taking on the 100-Mile “Dreadmill Challenge” for the second year in a row. Wenz who just completed the 100-Mile “Hitchcock Experience” race near Omaha, NE on December 11th spent the past couple of weeks resting and recuperating to prepare for the Dreadmill Challenge. “What can I say, I’m a glutton for punishment,” said Wenz jokingly. The Dreadmill Challenge requires participants to complete 100 miles on a treadmill in under 48 hours. Wenz is completing the Dreadmill Challenge at the Excelsior Springs Community Center and using his activity to raise awareness and funds for the Good Samaritan Center of Excelsior Springs. Last year he helped raise more than $2300 and hopes to surpass that total this year. Wenz who is very active with youth sports at the Community Center is also a member of the Fishing River Running Club which meets weekly on Wednesdays for a casual run and meet up, usually at one of the local restaurants such as Dubious Claims Brewery. When asked if he needed anything to help complete his challenge Wenz said, “make a donation to the Good Samaritan, or if they’re coming to the Community Center let them know I could really go for a McDouble!”
