Walmart Unveils Multi-Million Dollar Makeover, Donates to Area Charities

Store Manager David Kammerich stepped aside and let some of his long-time store associates cut the ceremonial ribbon provided by the Excelsior Springs Area Chamber of Commerce.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, Mo. (Nov. 1, 2024)—Excelsior Springs’ Walmart marked its grand reopening Friday morning with a celebratory event that brought together community members, employees, and local vendors. The event, held at 8 a.m., was opened by the Excelsior Springs High School Marching Band, which performed the national anthem and the Excelsior Springs fight song, creating an atmosphere of community pride.

Members of the ESHS marching band performed the National Anthem and the ESHS Fight Song.

The reopening celebration highlighted Walmart’s recent multi-million-dollar renovation, which store manager David Kammerich described as the “second-best day in our store’s history” since its initial opening in 1977. Kammerich expressed gratitude for the dedication of the store’s employees, acknowledging their efforts in keeping the store operational during extensive remodeling. Special recognition went to project lead Barb Badell and in-stock guarantor Haley Hendricks, alongside support from nearby Walmart locations in Cameron, Liberty, Gladstone, Barry Road, Richmond, and St. Joseph.

Store manager David Kammerich addressed the crowd and invited them to explore the new features.

In his speech, Kammerich emphasized Walmart’s commitment to enhancing the shopping experience through expanded selections, updated apparel and home sections, a redesigned vision center, and a newly configured pickup and delivery area to cater to the growing demand for online shopping. Kammerich added that shoppers can now find popular brands like Chaps, Madden NYC, Sophia, Reebok, and U.S. Polo.

Clay-Platte Homeschool Educators received $1,125.
Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity received $4,000.

To further commemorate the occasion, Walmart announced donations to two area organizations. Kammerich presented a $4,000 check to Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity and $1,125 to the Clay-Platte Home Educators, acknowledging these groups’ impact in the area.
