Excelsior Springs, Mo. – The spirit of community was alive and well on Saturday morning as more than 60 volunteers gathered for the 9th Annual Earth Day Clean Up, organized by Excelsior Springs Parks and Recreation.
Armed with gloves, trash bags, and determination, volunteers of all ages signed in, received their assignments (and free t-shirts!), grabbed a donut provided by the Excelsior Springs Rotary Club, and fanned out across the community to tackle projects ranging from pulling weeds and planting flowers to clearing debris from creeks and wooded areas. The event kicked off with a warm welcome from Parks and Recreation and Community Center Director Nate Williams, followed by a group photo in front of the iconic mural in Carolyn Schutte Pocket Park, capturing the energy and excitement of the day.
Crews worked diligently at sites throughout the city, with some groups braving muddy creek beds to remove discarded tires, cinderblocks, and trash, while others focused on sprucing up public spaces. Volunteers could be seen throughout the community hauling out heavy debris, tending to landscaping beds, and sorting recyclables, all while sharing smiles and a sense of purpose.
“A huge thank you to everyone who came out for our Earth Day Clean Up! Over 60 amazing volunteers gave up their Saturday morning to help beautify Excelsior Springs – we’re so grateful for your time, energy, and love for our town,” Excelsior Springs Parks and Recreation shared in a statement on their social media. “It was an incredible day of giving back, and we couldn’t have done it without you!”
Williams praised the dedication of those who participated, noting that the event’s success is an example of the strong community pride that defines Excelsior Springs. For nine years, the Earth Day Clean Up has served as a way for residents to come together, give back, and ensure that the natural beauty of their town is preserved for generations to come.
Plans are already in motion for next year’s milestone 10th Annual Earth Day Clean Up, promising even more opportunities for the community to make a difference.
