A vehicle crashed into the Casey’s General Store in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, at approximately 5:30 AM on the morning of Saturday, February 18th, 2023, causing serious structural damage. According to a police report the driver, identified as Alexander Millsap (31), was approaching the store in a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado when his brakes stopped working.
City officials stated that the impact from the truck was great enough to shift the checkout counter inside the building, knocking items to the floor. The incident caused enough damage that the doors misaligned and were unable to be locked using the deadbolt and had to be chained shut. Surprisingly, none of the windows were broken. No serious injuries were reported.
Construction workers on the scene Monday morning said they expected the store to be open later in the week, hopefully by Wednesday. However, the corporate offices of Casey’s did not have any details of the incident and were unsure of when the store might reopen.
Megan Kincaid, the store manager, said that the staff has been helping out at other area stores in the meantime so that no one is losing pay or jobs. “We miss our customers,” Kincaid said. “We are ready to come back, just want to make sure the store is safe for everyone.”
An investigation is currently ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident and to determine any liability. More information is expected to be released in the coming days.
