Liberty, MO – Timothy Haslett, the Excelsior Springs man being held in the Clay County Detention Center on nine felony counts, appeared in court on Wednesday, July 3, at 1:30 PM. Haslett faces charges including first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, first-degree kidnapping, second-degree assault, and endangering the welfare of a child. These charges stem from an October 7, 2022, incident in which a woman claims she escaped from Haslett’s home after being held for more than a month in his basement, where she was sexually abused and tortured.
In August 2023, state prosecutors presented evidence to the court indicating that Jaynie Crosdale, whose remains were found in a barrel in the Missouri River and later identified by law enforcement, had been inside Haslett’s home prior to his arrest. This led to an increase in Haslett’s bond, but no additional charges have been filed at this time.
During the hearing on Wednesday, Haslett’s defense attorneys requested additional time for preparation, prompting the judge to schedule his next court appearance for September 10 at 1:30 PM.
High-profile cases like Haslett’s often involve extensive investigations, numerous legal motions, and complex evidence, which can significantly delay the proceedings. It’s not uncommon for such cases to take years before they come to trial, ensuring that both the prosecution and defense have adequate time to prepare their arguments and review all pertinent information.
