CAMERON, Mo. (Sept. 3, 2024) — After sweeping the Cameron Tournament last week, the Excelsior Springs Lady Tigers softball team returned to Cameron on Tuesday, where they delivered an encore performance, securing a 14-2 victory over the Lady Dragons in just five innings.
The Lady Tigers’ relentless offense and strong pitching propelled them to the win in their first solo game of the season.
Excelsior Springs jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in both the first and second innings. Junior catcher Josie Casler led the charge, going 4-for-4 at the plate, including two home runs and three RBIs. Junior first baseman Keira Romazon contributed four RBIs, including three doubles, and junior third baseman Willa Schreier added three RBIs with a double and a home run.
The Tigers continued their offensive momentum with four more runs in the fourth inning and sealed the win with two runs in the fifth. Senior Alyssa Dean also had a strong performance, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs.
On the mound, freshman Courtney James controlled the game, allowing just six hits and two runs while striking out eight over five innings. Cameron’s offense struggled, with their only bright spot coming from Peyton Steeby, who hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.
Defensively, the Tigers committed just one error, while Cameron remained error-free despite the lopsided scoreline.
With the win, the Lady Tigers improved to 5-0 on the season. They will look to maintain their momentum when they face Oak Park on Monday, Sept. 9.
