Excelsior Springs, Mo. (Feb. 23, 2025) – The Silver Senior Prom Committee, in partnership with the Excelsior Springs High School Student Council (STUCO) and Key Club, the Senior Center, Chamber of Commerce, Good Samaritan Center (GSC), Job Corps, and Dari-B, has revealed details about its upcoming spring dance for those 55 and older, set for April 12.
The prom, an idea curated by the Aging Well Task Force in 2023, will be hosted at the Excelsior Springs High School commons. Laura Mize, neighborhood specialist, explained that each sponsor has contributed time and resources to make the event a great success, and this year will be no different.
Each group involved in the event is utilizing its community leadership skills and expertise to provide resources for the event. Grayson Grove, a high school senior and STUCO member, along with Key Club, has designed and provided decorations.
Mize explained that STUCO will decorate the commons area, staying under their budget of $248. To embody the theme of the 1960s with the slogan “This Magic Moment,” the space will feature magic hats, silver stars, cardboard records, and more. Additionally, they are providing crowns and sashes for the prom kings and queens, selecting one for each decade—the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s. Ballots will be available for attendees to vote for this year’s Silver Senior Prom royalty.
The Excelsior Springs Chamber of Commerce, led by Brian Rice, will also be adding to the fun. “They will provide the trolley to transport attendees from downtown to the school and back after the event,” Mize said.
Doors will open at 2 p.m., and Job Corps will provide an extensive menu, including mini quiches, pigs in a blanket, spinach and artichoke dip, vegetable and fruit trays, petit four cakes, and lemon bars. Dari-B will also provide sundaes for those in attendance.
During the prom, Mize revealed that the Bucket Band will perform live music, playing hits from the 1960s and 1970s. Attendees can also have their photos taken by Jade Williams in a one-of-a-kind photo booth.
For those who would like to attend but need formal wear, Mize added, “The GSC has arranged a free formal wear shopping event on Friday, March 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.” The GSC is currently accepting donations from the community to help provide attire so everyone can feel like a king or queen for the afternoon.
As for tickets, Mize mentioned that a suggested donation of $10 per person will be accepted at the door. Sponsors are in place to assist with the cost for those unable to make the donation.
“We are expecting 150-200 people to attend the prom,” Mize said. “We have also not restricted attendance to only those from Excelsior Springs.”
The committee asks those who plan to attend to make a reservation by signing up at the Excelsior Springs Senior Center or calling Mize at (816) 629-7011. Flyers will also be available at the Senior Center and Hall of Waters.
