Posts that got you talking:
QT opening was definitely the biggest conversation piece from this last week. Citizens and business owners took selfies and pictures of the gas station where they were shared online with great support!
On the same topic, someone local under a fake name posted a photo of the intersection at McCleary at 10 Hwy to show that prior to the new intersection, there was a long merge lane if you were going East on 10 Hwy at the light. Many citizens have expressed concern with the new intersection, because the merge lane has been removed. It stops shorter than what people are used to, and it has caused some close calls.
In addition to those concerns, citizens also mentioned that people are trying to use the right lane that merges onto 10 Highway to get to 69 Hwy. Everyone needs to be aware that the intersection has had some changes and to make yourself aware of them by driving safely.
Hope Craine posted into the Excelsior Citizen Facebook Group asking for help on what to do after she found a baby raccoon trapped in her trash container. After much advice, Hope was able to connect with an animal rehabilitation that is going to get it the care it needs before being released. This is the fourth time we have heard of this happening locally.

The fountain in front of the old Mill Inn, new Springs Restaurant, has now been installed! Go by and take a look! It’s now got running water and a nice light at night! The restaurant’s owners, Chuck and Sonja Duckworth, are eager to open! They’ve moved the opening to mid-November, but it’s sure to be worth the wait! They’ve completely renovated both the inside and outside of the building!

Other Noteworthy News This Week:
North Main Bridge, at Kennedy Avenue (also known as low water bridge) had to be closed indefinitely this week after a portion of the bridge collapsed. The City is planning to fix the hole and hopefully have the bridge reopened in 2-3 weeks, weather permitting, Brent Bishop reported. There is ARPA funding to replace the bridge, which will come in the near future. You can still use Kennedy Street to get around.

Support JD’s Journey to a New Kidney as this 22 year old man was born with a kidney disease causing him to be put on dialysis at the age of 9. Long-term dialysis has caused him to become wheelchair bound, have severe asthma, heart disease, as well as other health issues. He is in need of a kidney transplant and being high risk, will need to go to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Any help you can offer is appreciated.
Support Michelle’s Recovery from Sepsis as this local mom had to be hospitalized after a sudden serious infection called sepsis, a potentially life-threatening infection that gets into the bloodstream and attacks every organ if not treated. She will be in the hospital for another 6-8 weeks and does not have anything in savings. She’s in desperate need of financial help as she risks losing her home, car, etc.

I was born & raised in Excelsior or rather off 10 Hwy. I left Excelsior in the 70’s. I waited till my son was grown & since I worked in KC, I moved to NKC. I don’t get down to Excelsior much anymore. I’m 83 & don’t have a car anymore. I don’t have many relatives there anymore. I have lots of good memories though.
It’s good to hear from you, Sharon! You would be so proud of how the downtown looks today! There are many new developments on the west side of town. We are thriving and it is exciting to see new opportunities being brought to the community. It’s nice knowing that you have lots of good memories of Excelsior. Thanks for reading!
