QuikTrip Announces Opening Date for New Excelsior Springs Location
Some users are excited about QuikTrip’s new location, with one user expressing concern about traffic flow. However, others have expressed discontent, citing high prices and small size, with one user even calling it the “worst location ever.”
In a poll asking people to decide between four gas stations: QT, Kwik Trip, Casey’s, and Kum & Go, people were divided in their loyalty to Midwestern convenience stores, with some preferring QT’s wide selection and others loyal to Casey’s for its pizza and rural locations. One commenter appreciates QT’s fuel saver card, while another wishes for a Kwik Trip.

City of Excelsior Springs announced that the Meals on Wheels America program approved their application for recognition and they are developing a business plan for offering the service in the community.
There were over 300 reactions of likes and loves to the post. Many expressed interest in volunteering and were directed to Jeff Barge, director at the Senior Center in the ES Community Center. Others shared their positive experience in the past volunteering. Excelsior Citizen is now working on a story for more details.
Aniston Kennedy and Ashley Lester shocked us all hearing they had taken on helping a family that has accumulated 35-40 cats and kittens. They immediately asked people to take them in as fosters, requested donations be made for treatment of fleas and worms. Many citizens followed up with helpful ideas, even putting them in touch with agencies that help. Some citizens admitted that they’re feeding multiple stray cats, too. We will be following up on this with a story.
Brandon McWilliams shared Mark Hereford’s post with a photo of a tree on 69 Highway that is in the shape of a dragon! Many citizens had never realized it before and were eager to watch for it. Even more citizens said that they know that very tree and watch for it, calling it a dragon, dinosaur, and Godzilla! Erin Staponski said their family pretends they eat other cars and Krystal Land Gilbert, now grown, said she always looked for it on the way to her grandma’s house.
The trees were part of a WPA Project that Frederick Delano Roosevelt initiated in response to the dustbowl. FDR’s Great Wall of Trees planted more than 220 million trees on the Great Plains to protect farms from future dust storms. You can see the same types of trees on the Excelsior Springs Golf Course!
On Monday Erin Wyse reported the refrigerated cases had gone down at Walmart. The store is in the middle of a major renovation.
On Saturday Pam Mann shared that another Jamesport business has been destroyed by fire. Shearwood Surplus, an Amish business, was lost just ten days after the Jamesport Country Store was burned to the ground. The owner of that store plans to rebuild.
The most popular post this week was of local mom Brandy Wilson’s who shared of an unknown gentleman who offered a generous gift to her children and she wanted to thank him.
What’s wonderful is that these types of stories happen all the time. Thank you to the generous hearts that our community offers each other. You all make it a better place to live.
