Talk of the Town

Welcome to Talk of the Town! Each week, we will provide a comprehensive summary of major events, decisions, and discussions that took place in Excelsior Springs. We’ll highlight public comments, social media interactions, and responses from local leaders to give you a well-rounded view of how these stories are impacting our city.

Posts that got you talking:

Donnici’s uses the group quite a bit to reach out to the community and get feedback. Here’s what they were taking a poll on this week. Which would you choose?

Robbie Middaugh started a conversation regarding bait and tackle shops which led to many suggestions of shops in the area including: Roger’s in Liberty, 224 Bait Shop, General Store at Watkins Mill, Paradise, Casey’s, J&R Bait and Tackle in Lathrop. Neeley Woods said in the comments that Triple 10 Tackle is working on a tackle/kayak and kayak accessory shop! Tom Crowley walked through the steps of what it would take to raise your own bait minnows and start a worm farm.

This post didn’t bring any photos but there was discussion and familiarity of the business. Many citizens commented on how nice Chuck Peebles was. Dana Minski said that her grandfather would have Chuck pick them up from school if they were sick. She said how much she loved that he would tell her that he hoped she felt better soon.

Christine Catron Harrison commented about there being a Greyhound bus company that was run out of the cab company’s building on Thompson Ave.  Aileen Cole informed further that the bus line was Jefferson bus line and ran out of a restaurant ran by Wayne and Annie Wrisinger. She said that she worked for them in the 60’s and they were great people.

Check out Ramona Wade Clevenger’s account of cabs from back in the day:

Now if we could only get a regular Uber in town, would be nice!

We knew throwing this out there would be taking a chance but the citizens delivered when it came to nominating businesses to be considered for a shopping blitz! In fact, that’s what we’re naming it, Business Blitz and after taking everyone’s suggestions in the comments and running a randomizer, Opportunity Cafe and Coffee will be the first business we blitz this week. The idea is for everyone to try and shop at the chosen business at least once that week. Then we’ll check in with the store owner and see how we did! This is a brand new concept, so watch for it to evolve over time. If you have any good ideas or feedback, let us know!

Is a Business Blitz something you're willing to participate in?
