Talk of the Town

Welcome to Talk of the Town! Each week, we will provide a comprehensive summary of major events, decisions, and discussions that took place in Excelsior Springs. We’ll highlight public comments, social media interactions, and responses from local leaders to give you a well-rounded view of how these stories are impacting our city.

Top 3 Stories from last week:

Stories that got you talking:

Earlier in the week the Clay County Sheriff posted about Posts in community Facebook groups like swap-n-shops or garage sales claiming to involve lost or abused kids and pets are often scams. Scammers create these posts to exploit your compassion and get you to share them. Once the posts are widely shared, they are edited to promote fraudulent rental listings or sweepstakes aimed at stealing money.

To avoid being scammed:
• Only share missing person posts from law enforcement, not from random community groups.
• Check if the poster’s profile is new, as scammers often create profiles recently.
• Be cautious if comments are turned off on the post.
• Look for specific details like the full name, last known location, and law enforcement contact, which are usually missing from fake posts.
• Report suspicious posts to Facebook.
