Jen and Josh Reynolds are the new owners of the Excelsior Roasting Company and they’re excited to be serving Excelsior Springs the “best coffee around.” Jen began working at the Mug coffeehouse part-time in early 2021 and quickly realized she’d found her calling. After purchasing the Mug and partner business, Excelsior Roasting Company on December 19th, 2021 she and Josh closed for a quick reset before reopening on January 1st, 2022 under the unified banner of Excelsior Roasting Company.

Jen is the coffee connoisseur, and her passion for the piping hot beverage is tied to some strong memories from her childhood. She reflected, “coffee has always had this special resonance for me… my relationship with coffee started when I was a kid, making coffee with my dad.  I have two brothers and a sister and those early mornings, making and drinking coffee was really the only time I got my dad to myself.” Jen says Josh is the “idea man,” a full-time employee of Kansas City Southern Railroad, he enjoys dreaming up fun activities and marketing ideas to help Excelsior Roasting Co. become more ingrained in the community. Live music, more art, subscription boxes, hosting events, there are lots of ideas brewing. Josh is also somewhat of a “foodie” according to Jen, “he does the cooking and I do the baking,” she said with a chuckle.

There are plenty of great food items to choose from on the Excelsior Roasting Co. menu. Jen says they’ve tried to keep some favorites from the previous menu while looking to improve quality and consistency.“ The Reynolds are also working hard to choose ingredients and specialty items that are near to Excelsior Springs, “Keeping it local is really important to us,” said Jen. They say that they believe when small businesses work together it lifts everyone up, and they want to work with as many other local businesses as they can. Once they’ve stabilized the cafe, they said they are going to fire up the roasters again. “We’ve already been talking to a couple of different businesses in town about possibly supplying coffee for them, which is really exciting to think about,” said Jen.

Jen says she’s especially proud of the employees who’ve worked hard through the transition. “I can’t say enough about them. They’ve all stepped up. They’ve had to learn new things, new recipes, and they’ve, all done a great, great job,” she exclaimed. The Reynolds invite you to stop by and try one of their many menu items, whether it be food or drink.

Excelsior Roasting Co., located at 2300 Vintage Ct, here in Excelsior Springs, is open from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM seven days a week.
