SMITHVILLE, Mo. (Sept. 26, 2024) — The Excelsior Springs Lady Tigers suffered a tough loss Thursday afternoon, falling 18-10 to the Smithville Lady Warriors in a high-scoring game that saw both teams combine for 34 hits.

Excelsior Springs (13-6) got off to a fast start, scoring three runs in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run home run from Alyssa Dean, who went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored. However, Smithville (8-3) quickly answered with three runs of their own, and then took control with a four-run second inning and a seven-run third.

Josie Casler led the Tigers’ offense with a 4-for-5 performance, while Willa Schreier drove in four runs on three hits, including a double. Kayden Rogers added two RBIs and two hits, but the Lady Tigers were unable to keep pace with Smithville’s offensive firepower. Smithville’s Mackenzie McDonald and Addison Davis each hit home runs, with Davis driving in four runs on two hits to help seal the victory.

On the mound, Keira Romazon started for Excelsior Springs but struggled early, giving up seven earned runs in just over an inning of work. Kayden Rogers took over in relief, allowing 11 more runs (seven earned) over the next four and two-thirds innings.

Despite the loss, the Tigers showed their grit, scoring four runs in the fourth inning to narrow the gap, but they couldn’t mount a full comeback. Smithville tacked on three more runs in the fifth to secure their 18-10 win.

Excelsior Springs will look to bounce back as they head to Winnetonka on Monday (9/30) and then face off against Kearney in a rematch at home on Tuesday (10/1). They’ll have a few days off before hosting the Excelsior Springs Tournament starting on Saturday (10/5).
