Excelsior Springs, MO–Excelsior Springs is gearing up for a special occasion—the Silver Prom, an elegant affair tailored specifically for guests aged 60 and older. This event promises to be a delightful afternoon filled with music, dancing, and celebration.

Scheduled for May 4th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Excelsior Springs High School Commons, the Silver Prom invites seniors to relive the magic of their youth and enjoy a gathering of peers in a welcoming atmosphere. Organized by the Excelsior Springs Community Development Office and the Excelsior Springs High School Student Council, this event is not just a dance but a celebration community.

Addi Rubey, a member of the ESHS Student Council, said that Stuco has had a lot of fun helping to organize the event. According to Rubey, the student’s main role has been mapping out the logistics of the day’s events and helping to create the invitations that have been used to advertise. She said Stuco has also ordered all the decorations for the dance, which are being donated by the Chamber of Commerce.

While reservations are encouraged, individuals are welcome to attend even without prior notification, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to join in the festivities. However, due to venue capacity limitations, attendance will be capped at 300 guests to ensure comfort and safety. Those who want to secure their spot on the dance floor can call 816-629-7011.

A $5 admission fee will be collected at the door, and attendees can look forward to an afternoon of entertainment, including live music by the Bucket Band performing hits from the 60s and 70s, courtesy of Job Corps, whose culinary arts program will also provide finger foods.

The Bucket Band, consisting of Tim Coulter on keyboards, guitar, and vocals, Bill Bishop on lead guitar and vocals, Jeff Mize on bass, and Brad Burgess on drums and vocals, will help ensure the dancing never stops. They embrace a repertoire that includes overlooked gems and personal favorites from the ’60s and early ’70s, inviting audiences to relive the golden era of Top 40 radio.

The highlight of the evening will be the crowning of Prom Kings and Queens representing three decades—the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. Additionally, awards will be presented to the best-dressed individuals, encouraging guests to showcase their finest attire. Adding to the fun, door prizes will be given away, and a car show is planned to enhance the event’s nostalgia.
