Excelsior Springs, MO – Go wild, planning fanatics, the Excelsior Springs School District (ESSD) has officially released its academic calendar for the 2024-2025 school year. The upcoming calendar includes an inventive approach to accommodate the needs of its students and staff, particularly those at Lewis Elementary. A highlight of the upcoming school year is an extended three-week winter break, scheduled from December 23, 2024, to January 8, 2025. This extended break is part of a strategic plan to facilitate the transition of students and staff to the new Lewis Elementary School building, scheduled for completion at the end of 2024.

District officials expressed their excitement about this milestone, stating, “This year includes an extended three-week winter break, specifically designed to facilitate the transition of our Lewis Elementary students and staff to their new school building. This is a significant step for our community, and we look forward to starting a new chapter in our state-of-the-art facility.”

The 2024-2025 calendar marks the beginning of the academic year on August 21, 2024, with notable dates including Labor Day (September 2, 2024), and Thanksgiving break (November 27-29, 2024). Students will return to their studies after the winter break on January 9, 2025. The spring semester features a spring break from March 24 to 28, 2025, and concludes with graduation ceremonies on May 16, 2025. The planned last day of school is set for May 20, 2025, with make-up days scheduled from May 21 to 30, 2025, if needed.

The district also outlined several professional development dates and parent-teacher conference days, emphasizing the importance of ongoing staff education and communication between the school and families. The calendar includes 162 school days for students and 174 teacher days.
