Excelsior Springs, MO—The Excelsior Springs School District (ESSD40) has announced an initiative to provide free lunch and breakfast to all students during March and April. Deputy Superintendent Dr. Mark Bullimore emphasized that this program underscores the district’s commitment to enhancing student health and academic performance.
Bullimore stated that research has consistently shown a direct correlation between proper nutrition and learning success. By guaranteeing access to nutritious meals, ESSD aims to invest in students’ futures and promote healthy eating habits that contribute to academic excellence. “We’re investing in their futures and supporting healthy eating habits that fuel academic excellence,” Dr. Bullimore stated. Bullimore also expressed that he would like to find a way to extend the program throughout the entire school year if possible.
The meal program has had a few hiccups. Due to the system setup and the program’s part-time nature, students and parents might initially see a charge on their accounts at the time of purchase. The district has assured that these charges are reviewed and removed by the end of the day, with adjustments possibly extending into the next day. “We understand this process may cause some confusion and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience,” Dr. Bullimore added, encouraging those with concerns or uncorrected charges to contact their school’s office. Despite the additional effort required to manage this initiative, ESSD is excited about the opportunity to offer free meals to all students.
The introduction of free school meals in the Excelsior Springs School District not only highlights the importance of access to nutritious meals for learning success but also fosters an environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive academically and physically.
