Safe Options for Household Hazardous Waste in Excelsior Springs

Excelsior Springs, MO – Residents of Excelsior Springs have year-round options for disposing of hazardous household waste (HHW) thanks to the City’s participation in the Regional Household Hazardous Waste Program.

This program, coordinated by the MARC Solid Waste Management District, offers several convenient ways to dispose of unwanted items like paint, lawn chemicals, car fluids, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, and cleaners. It’s important to note that business waste is not accepted.

Permanent Disposal Facilities

  • Kansas City Collection Center: Located at 4707 Deramus St., Kansas City, MO 64120. Open Thursdays and Fridays from 9 am to 6 pm and Saturdays from 9 am to 4 pm. No appointment necessary. Residents with more than 100 pounds of HHW should call 816-513-8400 beforehand. This service is free to Excelsior Springs residents.
  • Lee’s Summit Facility: Operated by KC Dumpster Company at 400 SW Recycle Blvd, Lee’s Summit, MO 64063. Open Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 7:30 am to 4 pm. No appointment necessary. A fee of $2 per pound applies to residents of non-participating communities. Contact Lee’s Summit Facility at 816-287-2221 for more information.

Mobile Collection Events

In addition to the permanent facilities, mobile collection events are scheduled throughout the year. The next event will be held on Saturday, September 21st, 2024, from 8 am to noon at 1300 S. Marietta St., Excelsior Springs, MO. This event is a partnership between Excelsior Springs, Lawson, and Richmond.
