Parks and Rec Director Blown Away by Clean Up Efforts

Participants in the Earth Day Cleanup

On what was most definitely the windiest day so far this year, approximately forty people gathered to participate in the annual Spring Clean Up recognizing Earth Day for the community. Teams gathered in the Carolyn Schutte Pocket Park for a group photo and then Parks and Recreation Director Nate Williams broke the groups into various sections of the downtown where they collected trash and other debris. Unable to gather the past year due to the pandemic and knowing floods have come through since then, everyone expected there to be a lot to clean up. However, when citizens returned back to the park for a hot dog lunch, sponsored by Excelsior Springs Rotary, the discussion was on how well maintained the land really has been, giving credit to other citizens for being aware and disposing of trash and waste properly.
