A sense of excitement and jubilation filled the air as the community gathered to witness the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony of One Step at a Time Dance Ballroom Dance Studio at their new location on 423 S Thompson Ave. The event, held on Thursday, July 20, 2023, was attended by fellow business owners, city officials, and students who joined in celebrating this momentous occasion.
Owner Jeri Mickle, a passionate advocate for dance, expressed her love for the art form and her belief in its numerous benefits. “I love dance. I love the way it makes you feel. I think everyone should dance; it’s great exercise, it’s great for couples, great for communication, and excellent for your body,” Jeri shared enthusiastically.
With an impressive dance background spanning 37 years, Jeri’s journey in the world of dance began with Arthur Murray Studios, where she worked for five years before eventually owning her own studio. “We teach the popular dances: Waltz, Fox Trot, Tango, Chacha, Rumba, Bachata, and more. We offer group lessons, private lessons, practice parties, and theme parties,” she added.
The studio’s dedication to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment was evident in Jeri’s heartfelt encouragement to potential students. “Never be embarrassed when you come in here, everyone has to start from the beginning… The hardest thing you’ll ever do is walk through that door the first time,” she reassured.
One Step at a Time Dance Studio provides an array of classes to cater to dancers of all levels:
Group Classes: These lessons focus on one dance at a time, teaching the basic steps and various patterns. They are perfect for meeting other students and experiencing the joy of dancing together.
Private Lessons: Tailored to individual needs, expert instructors offer personalized one-on-one sessions to help dancers improve their skills and confidence.
Wedding Choreography: The studio offers couples the opportunity to create magical and romantic choreography for their special day, ensuring a stunning and memorable performance.
Practice Parties: Students can enjoy a fun and relaxed atmosphere to practice their dance moves, share snacks and beverages, and celebrate their progress together.
The new location has been met with overwhelming support from the community, and Jeri expressed her gratitude for the warm reception. “We are blessed to be in this location. It’s been wonderful, and we’re ready to rock and roll,” she exclaimed.
As One Step at a Time Dance Studio opens its doors at its new location, Jeri and her team look forward to continuing their mission of spreading the joy and benefits of dance throughout the Excelsior Springs community and beyond. Whether individuals are seasoned dancers or taking their first steps on the dance floor, the studio offers a place for everyone to embrace the rhythm and beauty of dance.
