Obituary | Jan Stryker

Jan Derrick Stryker, 71, of Excelsior Springs, MO, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on October 2, 2024.

Jan was born on July 11th, 1953 in Falls City, NE to Charles and Pauline Stryker. He was the 5th of six children. He graduated from Raytown High School in Raytown, MO in 1971. He proudly worked as a 2nd generation railroad worker for Union Pacific Railroad until his early retirement in 1996. He enjoyed candy making and baking traditions, as well as gardening and playing video games with his grandkids. 

He is survived by his children Jennifer (Patricio) Zamora, Melissa (Ryan) Valdez, and Brenna (Clifton) Durham, his grandchildren Trigg (Ashley) Brewer, Jayden (Idaly) Zamora, Alexander (Miah) Garcia, Day (Andrew) Zamora, Dominic Zamora, Selena and Olivia Valdez, Gracelynn Durham and great-grandchildren Jazmin and Noami Zamora. He is also survived by his brother David (Ethel) Stryker and sister Joyce Johnson along with many nieces and nephews and many, many friends. He is also survived by his best 4 legged friends MacIntosh, Jada and Cooper, the best dogs a man could have to look after him.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Pauline Stryker, sister Patricia (John) Lord, brothers Robert and Kevin Stryker. 

Jan truly enjoyed a good book and a good conversation. He thoroughly enjoyed playing games of all kinds and just the company of others. He appreciated every person for their unique and individual self. He loved with his whole heart and taught those around him how to do the same. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to KC Pet Project, in Jan’s name. 

His celebration of life will be held Nov 2, 2024 at the Elks Lodge from 4p-8p (421 S Titus Ave, Excelsior Springs, MO 64024)
