EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, Mo. (Sept. 9, 2024) – Excelsior Springs is buzzing with mum madness as Bargain Zone kicked off the fall season with their much-anticipated shipment of Amish-grown mums. The vibrant flowers, known for their size and unmatched quality, have sparked a rush at the store, with customers forming lines down the aisles and out the door.

Customers lined the aisles waiting for the mums to hit the floor.

The frenzy was captured perfectly last Wednesday by Branden Durham, owner of the new neighboring business Shorty’s Clip Joint Barbershop, who posted on Facebook: “Okay, I’ve never seen anything like this. I’m sitting in my barbershop, and I’ve seen 500 people come and get all these mums at Bargain Zone in the last 45 minutes! People coming out with 10 or 12 at a time, filling up whole truckloads. It’s a MAD HOUSE!”

Customers were very polite and helped one another get the colors they wanted.

On Monday, Bargain Zone got their second shipment of over 700 mums in all colors and varieties, and folks again went wild. The Amish-grown flowers, some with a circumference of over two feet, come from southern Missouri and have drawn locals and visitors alike, with many praising the quality. One shopper, Jerri Cantrell, shared, “She [Bargain Zone] ALWAYS has the absolute best mums!” Another customer mentioned, “These are the biggest and most beautiful mums you’ll find for the price they sell them for.” For reference, single-color mums sell for $13, and tri-color mums for $16.50.

Sam the grower was busy unloading mums all afternoon.

For those who missed out on the first two shipments, don’t worry! Bargain Zone owner Rita Hagen said there will be several more shipments of the mums over the next few weeks. The next shipment is expected to arrive this Friday, Sept. 13. So, head to Bargain Zone at 1719 W Jesse James Rd or check out their Facebook page for more details and updates on when the mums will arrive.
