Molly Roberts Studio Embarks on a New Era

Molly and Megan

This July, downtown’s Molly Roberts Studio enters a new chapter as ownership passes from Molly Morgan Roberts to her daughter, Megan Martin Gantt. For more than 13 years, Molly’s art has enriched our community, evolving into the metaphysical retail space it is today.

In September 2011, Molly returned to her hometown to pursue her passion for art and entrepreneurship, launching her first studio at 101 E Broadway, transforming her life. Starting with furniture refinishing and antique sales in Warsaw, Missouri, Molly’s late discovery of art became a passionate dedication.

Molly used her studio to host art shows featuring regional talents. She took out another lease on a space located at Marietta and Spring St to use as a teaching studio. Her paint classes, which were popular with both children and adults, ignited a creative spark that Megan eagerly embraced from the studio’s early days, lending a hand in preparations, assisting her mom during classes, and tidying up afterward.

As the physical demands of long hours in the shop and in front of a canvas began to take their toll, Molly delved deeper into metaphysical realms, enriching the studio with crystals, incense, sound therapy instruments, oils, and tokens of peace and well-being. Filling cups with more than just materials, Molly created a space where everyone felt welcomed and valued. When the building went up for sale she relocated for the last time at 253 E Broadway, providing a place for her expanding crystal collection, while still offering gallery space.

Earlier this month Molly announced that she would be retiring and “passing the torch” to her daughter Megan, who plans to continue the tradition of art and metaphysical exploration. On June 29, 2024, a joyful gathering of more than 100 revelers celebrated this transition. Friends old and new filled the studio, their spirits lifted by the melodies of local musician Kari King.

In retirement, Molly plans to rediscover her passion for painting, blending her artistry with natural crystals, materials, and moon water. Her latest creations, displayed in the studio’s gallery, symbolize a deeper spiritual connection.

For Megan, this business ownership is not unfamiliar territory. Not only has she helped her mom with her business, she has supported her husband’s business endeavors by doing secretarial and tax work for GMR Concrete and Construction. “I embrace this new journey wholeheartedly,” she shared. It’s my opportunity to carve my own path and share this spiritual journey with my children and grandchildren.”
