Minor League Basketball Team to call Excelsior Springs Home, Will play at Historic Roosevelt Gymnasium
September 27, 2022 – The Excelsior Springs Planning Commission has granted a Special Use Permit to Forward Excelsior LLC to utilize the historic Roosevelt Gymnasium as the home court for a minor league basketball team. The Excelsior Springs Scream is the newest member of the American Basketball Association (ABA) and will play 10 home games in an 18-game season. Their opponents include teams from Arkansas, Indiana, St Louis, Memphis, and Mississippi.
The ABA is a professional basketball league and the team will include former NCAA Division I, NBA, and European League basketball players looking to get their next shot at an NBA contract.
“The core components for downtown revitalization are entertainment and dining,” said property owner and team owner Titus Bond. “This basketball team is a community asset and is just the first step in our plans to reinvigorate downtown. We are excited for the community and businesses to support this endeavor,” he said. Roosevelt has undergone an extensive restoration to meet the standards of professional basketball. The venue will have a capacity of around 200 fans. Bond, says he also plans to bring in other entertainment, such as professional wrestling, boxing, and concerts to Roosevelt. “Affordable, family-friendly entertainment. Affordable tickets, affordable beer and concessions, and just good old-fashioned fun is what we offer,” said Bond.
Tickets start at just $7 per game. Season tickets, corporate sponsorships, VIP group packages, and team merchandise will be unveiled in the coming days at www.screambasketball.com.
Fans are encouraged to search out the team on Facebook at Excelsior Springs Scream to learn how they can become involved.
