Mawby and Hall Crowned Homecoming Royalty

Excelsior Springs’ Homecoming 2021 is in the books, and although the Tigers didn’t come out winners on the football field there were lots of great memories made. Seniors, Lillian Mawby and Dacey Hall were crowned Homecoming Queen and King capping off a week of spirit days and festivities throughout the school district. The parade held in the downtown was well attended and the floats, bands, and teams were all in high spirits.

The Oak Grove Panthers clawed their way past the Tiger’s defense and ended up winning the Homecoming matchup 54-28. Halftime of the game saw Lillian Mawby, daughter of Marie and Robert Mawby, crowned Homecoming Queen. Afterwards, Lillian said “I feel honored that my classmates even nominated me, let alone voted for me to win. Thank you so much to everyone, this was the perfect end to my Senior homecoming.”. Dacey Hall, son of Lindsay Hall and Cedric Chess, was selected as the Homecoming King on Saturday evening during the Homecoming dance. Hall said, “I Really wasn’t expecting to win, but it’s feels great to be chosen  as the class of 2022’s Homecoming King.”

High School Principal Christen Everett was relieved that, for the most part, everything went smoothly. “I am so happy we were able to have as close to a traditional Homecoming as possible. We had to make several adjustments along the way to attempt to keep students and staff as safe as possible, but our students really embraced the changes and we ended up having a great Homecoming weekend,” she said. Everett added that because the outdoor pep rally held at the stadium was so fun, it may just become the new norm.
