Excelsior Springs, Mo. – Jena Eckel’s work is an enchanting journey through surrealism, blending the mystical and the earthly into stunning acrylic paintings and drawings. With her vibrant use of colors and intricate designs, Eckel’s art pulls you into a world where the unknown meets the universe, offering a glimpse of dreamlike landscapes filled with references to tarot, astrology, crystals, and astronomy.
For Jena, creating art isn’t just a hobby—it’s a lifelong passion. Raised in a family that encouraged creative expression, whether through music, theater, or visual arts, Eckel was introduced to a variety of mediums from a very young age. “My family and I were all very passionate about creating,” she says. “They showed me various ways of expressing myself, which definitely encouraged my desire to be an artist.” As she grew, this encouragement solidified her identity as a creator. Art, in its many forms, became a vital part of her life and a powerful tool for self-expression.
For Eckel, art is not just about the final product; it’s a therapeutic and personal journey. “Art is subjective and super unpredictable,” she explains. “Making mistakes, redoing them, focusing on unwanted emotions and working with them to create something unique—it’s a beautiful routine.” Her art, she notes, is closely linked to her own emotional process and healing.
Having struggled with mental illness, Eckel finds art to be a grounding tool, a way to process emotions and transform them into something meaningful. “Art represents life to me,” she says. “It’s something very special and therapeutic.” Her work aims to connect with the dreamscapes of countless individuals, offering a space for others to reflect and resonate with her visual expressions.

While Jena has been creating her entire life, it’s only recently that she began sharing her work with the world. “I’ve been drawing for fun, for friends, and family, but I just started putting my art out there more seriously,” she says. She has yet to take on commissions but is eager to do so. “Seeing my art displayed in a gallery was an amazing experience. It allowed me to view my work from a new perspective, and that made me appreciate it more,” Eckel shares.
Her art is now available for viewing and purchase at Bohemian Sage Gallery in Excelsior Springs. This opportunity has helped propel her creative journey, pushing her to create more and refine her techniques. The support from the gallery and the interaction with other artists has been an invaluable part of her growth.
