Sacred Music Festival at the First United Methodist Church of Excelsior Springs

The First United Methodist Church of Excelsior Springs, in collaboration with the renowned Marvin Byas Singers, is proud to host the upcoming Sacred Music Festival on July 14-16. This event promises to be a harmonious celebration of faith, music, and community. All individuals and church choirs are cordially invited to participate in this immersive musical experience, culminating in a final performance of J.H. Maunder’s moving oratorio, “Olivet to Calvary.”

Sacred music has a unique ability to uplift and inspire, transcending barriers and connecting people through its melodic and heartfelt expression of spirituality. The Sacred Music Festival aims to provide a platform for musicians and singers to come together, learn, and perform beautiful pieces that touch the soul.

The festival kicks off on Friday evening, July 14, at 6:30 pm, with a hymn sing and run-through of the program. This initial gathering sets the tone for the weekend ahead, fostering a sense of camaraderie among participants.

Saturday, July 15, offers a full day of rehearsals and musical immersion. Singers will convene at 9:30 am to begin their collective journey through the melodies of “Olivet to Calvary.” After a morning of rehearsal, everyone will take a break to enjoy a potluck lunch at noon, strengthening bonds and sharing delicious food. The afternoon session resumes promptly and concludes with a dinner break at 5:00 pm. Following the meal, participants will return for a final run-through and dress rehearsal at 6:30 pm, fine-tuning their performances for the grand finale.

On Sunday, July 16, choirs will have the opportunity to present a “sneak peek” performance at their respective home churches during worship services. This gives congregations a taste of the incredible music that awaits them later in the day. Finally, at 4:00 pm, everyone will reconvene at the First United Methodist Church of Excelsior Springs, 1650 Rainbow Blvd, Excelsior Springs, for the highly anticipated Final Performance. The concert is open to the public, and a suggested donation of $15 is encouraged to support the event.
