Excelsior Springs, MO – Students from the Excelsior Springs Job Corps are stepping up to repair the historic Crystal Lithia mineral water well site, which has suffered severe weather damage over the past several years. The beautiful pagoda located at the corner of Benton and Saratoga Ave has seen many of its decorative boards around the top of the structure rot or fall away. In response, the Job Corps’ construction training program has volunteered their labor to restore the pagoda to its former glory.
Earlier this week, the student crew met with Dennis Hartman, a member of the Friends of the Wells committee, to plan the restoration efforts. “The Crystal Lithia well site is an important part of the community’s history, and we’re excited to help preserve it,” said Jamie Simmons, Construction Instructor for Excelsior Springs’ Job Corps. The students will apply their skills to replace and restore the damaged boards, ensuring the pagoda remains a proud symbol of Excelsior Springs and its history.
Job Corps programs across the United States provide valuable opportunities for young people to break the cycle of poverty and gain essential skills. These federally funded programs offer free education and vocational training in various trades, including construction, carpentry, healthcare, and more. By participating in Job Corps, youth can earn credentials, complete their high school education, and secure meaningful employment, setting them on a path toward a brighter future.
