MISSOURI CITY, Mo. — A man was charged Friday after allegedly trying to break into a Missouri City school while under the influence of narcotics, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities received a 911 call at approximately 10:52 a.m. from staff at the Missouri City School, reporting a man wearing only underwear attempting to force entry into the building. The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Jonathen R. Estep of Missouri City, managed to shatter the glass of the initial entry door but was thwarted by a second set of doors, trapping him in the vestibule and preventing access to the school interior.
During the incident, the school was placed on lockdown, and an administrator suffered injuries from the broken glass while attempting to block Estep’s entry. After failing to breach the second barrier, Estep exited the premises and was observed attempting to enter nearby houses.
Responding deputies encountered Estep walking down the street. Upon their attempt to apprehend him, Estep became combative, assaulting one of the officers. Despite deploying a Taser, which proved ineffective, law enforcement was eventually able to subdue and arrest Estep after using a beanbag round.
Estep, who appeared to be under the influence and unarmed, has been charged with first-degree burglary, assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and misdemeanor assault. He is currently hospitalized for injuries sustained from breaking the school’s door and has not yet been booked into the detention center. Upon booking, his bond will be set at $100,000.
The investigation further revealed that after initially leaving the school, Estep attempted to re-enter the premises but was deterred by a nearby neighbor, who also faced an assault attempt by Estep. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office commended the neighbor’s brave intervention.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office continues investigating the incident, looking to uncover any motive behind the brazen break-in.
