After a two year hiatus due to the virus, the Good Samaritan Center was able to host their annual Tortoise and the Hare 5k Run, Walk, and Roll this past weekend in downtown Excelsior Springs. Cold temperatures were no match for the warm hearts that showed up to give back to the community’s neediest. Over 100 people were in attendance for the event that started at Lewis Elementary and wound down South Kansas City Avenue toward Lake Maurer. Organizer for the race and Good Samaritan Center Board President Don Ledford felt good about the turnout and Director Sara Noblet shared her appreciation for those participating, sponsoring, and volunteering to help with the event over the microphone. Many businesses and organizations brought teams to both walk and run. Special thanks was given to the Excelsior Springs Police Department, Excelsior Springs Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services for being at the event to assure safety for all.
