Fresh From the Market: October 25, 2023

By Tammy Murphy

It seemed that Mother Nature had other plans for our final night at the Farmers Market. But as we’ve learned throughout this season, a little rain can’t dampen the spirit of our vibrant community. Despite the uncooperative weather, our resilient community came together one last time to celebrate the Farmers Market.

Approximately 20 little ones, adorned in their spookiest and most imaginative costumes, joined us for an evening of fun, festivities, and pumpkins. Speaking of pumpkins, a heartfelt thank you goes out to the Excelsior Springs Hospital’s CEO Kristen DeHart, whose generosity allowed each child to take home their very own pumpkin to decorate. It’s moments like these that truly embody the sense of community and togetherness that the Farmers Market represents.

But let’s not forget our incredible vendors, the unsung heroes of every market day. Braving the elements, they showcased their exceptional products and creations, adding a touch of magic to an otherwise drizzly evening.

To all of you who attended our market throughout the season, we extend our deepest gratitude. Your unwavering support, rain or shine, has been instrumental in making this season a resounding success. Your presence has breathed life into the market.

As we bid farewell to this year’s market season, we’d like to share some exciting news for the future. We’ve taken your valuable feedback to heart, particularly concerning parking. In response, we’re thrilled to announce that next year, the Farmers Market will find its new home at the “Hitch Lot,” situated at 400 South Street, just a block south of our previous location. This strategic move not only addresses parking issues but also paves the way for further growth and expansion, ensuring an even more enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

To introduce this new location, we invite you to mark your calendars for December 2, 2023. On this date, we’ll be hosting a special Christmas Market from 9 am to 1 pm. Parking and market access will be conveniently located in the Hitch Lot, while the market itself will be held in the lower level of The Fishing River Market building.

Our regular Wednesday markets will return on June 5, 2024, with the promise of more memorable moments, delicious produce, and unique artisanal treasures.

In closing, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all our supporters and dedicated vendors for a fantastic season. Your commitment to our market is the driving force behind its success, and we can’t wait to welcome you back next year for even more incredible moments. Until then, stay well and stay connected with your Farmers Market family.
