Football Tigers Score Big with Community Service Day

July 12, 2023 – The Excelsior Springs Football Team once again demonstrated their commitment to community service by organizing the highly anticipated Tiger Service Day. This annual event, which took place on Wednesday, July 12th from 9 AM to Noon, offered non-skilled labor and assistance to community members from all walks of life. From moving furniture to gardening, yard maintenance, and painting, the Tigers eagerly provided their help and support.

Coach Joel Mathews, expressed his enthusiasm for Tiger Service Day, saying, “It’s our opportunity to get out and give back to the community that’s done a lot to support us.” The team received numerous requests from community members seeking assistance with various odd jobs around their homes or properties, tasks that might be challenging for them to tackle alone.

Dividing their teams into groups, the Tigers visited 13 different locations throughout the community, working diligently to fulfill the needs of those who sought their help. The tasks included clearing flower beds, performing outdoor chores, painting, moving furniture, and providing manual labor wherever it was required.

Coach Mark Faubion highlighted the significance of this annual tradition, stating, “We’re not just a sports team that people follow on Friday nights. We become a part of the community, helping out at people’s houses and establishing ourselves as good brothers, family members, and friends.” Over the years, the team has made a positive impact on the community, fostering a sense of camaraderie and support.

The sense of teamwork and unity gained from this community service activity strengthens their bond as a team and emphasizes the value of hard work and dedication. Tiger football player Race Meador shared his experience of mulching a yard for a woman in need, stating, “It makes everybody feel like we’re actually working like a family… It’s just easier to get it all done with all of us helping.”

Fellow teammate Dawson Claypool added, “Getting out here in a different aspect…we have to work as a team to do these jobs correctly.” The players recognize the importance of community support for their football program and the school district as a whole. Engaging in activities like Tiger Service Day allows them to give back and show their appreciation for the immense support they receive.

Cameron Mayfield shared his gratitude for the opportunity to assist community members, saying, “It means a lot to us…just to show that we actually do care about our community and give back to the people that actually come out to our games and support us.”

The Excelsior Springs Football Team’s Tiger Service Day has become a highly anticipated and integral part of the community’s annual traditions. Through their selfless actions, the Tigers exemplify the spirit of teamwork, unity, and generosity, making a lasting impact on the lives of community members. Their dedication to giving back showcases the values instilled in them as athletes and the strong bond they share as a team.
