HOLT, Mo. — A fatal car crash in the early hours of Friday morning has sparked an investigation by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, according to a statement from Public Relations Manager Sarah Boyd.

At approximately 8 a.m. on February 23, deputies were dispatched to a scene on NE 192nd Street near Outer Road W, southeast of Holt, following reports of a vehicular accident. Upon arrival, they discovered a 2013 Toyota Camry off the road, overturned, and engulfed in flames.

The initial probe into the incident has determined it to be a single-vehicle crash, with the driver being the sole occupant of the car. The authorities are investigating the circumstances leading to the driver veering off the roadway.

The tragic event resulted in the death of the driver, who has been identified as 55-year-old Melanie D. Avery of Lawson, Mo. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office has extended their condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Avery and has assured that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.
