The City of Excelsior Springs is inviting residents to a Planning and Pizza Session on Sunday, April 28th, at 4:00 pm in the Council Chambers at the Hall of Waters. This is the first of two sessions designed to engage the community in the development of a new comprehensive plan.
The comprehensive plan is a crucial tool that guides decision-making, growth, and development for Excelsior Springs. The last plan was adopted in December 2009, and the city is partnering with Olsson Studio to create a new one that reflects the current needs and aspirations of the community.
“Before we get started, we want to hear from you,” said city staff in a press release. The Planning and Pizza Session will be a facilitated discussion focusing on the importance of planning, the differences between zoning and land use, and how residents can provide input to shape the future of Excelsior Springs.
The 2009 plan has played a role in several positive developments, including the work of the Downtown Excelsior Partnership, the new homes along Excelsior Street, and improvements to trails and pathways. The new plan will build on these successes and chart a course for the future.
A second Planning and Pizza Session will be held on Thursday, May 16th, at 6:00 pm at the Excelsior Springs Community Center. Both sessions will offer pizza to attendees.
