After their first full week out of school, many of the programs that are going to be offered to the community’s youth have yet to begin! That’s why we have done our best to compile a list of summer activities for children of all ages to participate in.
School District Summer Programs
Launch Summer School: Through a partnership with Launch, the school district offers online courses in Health, Personal Finance, and Credit Recovery from Monday, June 3rd to Friday, June 28th. Students can earn up to 1 credit by completing all required coursework within the timeframe. Summer grades are included in GPA’s and high school transcripts.
ACT Test Prep: Available to all sophomores and juniors, this program runs from May 28th to June 7th from 12-3:30pm at ESHS. Students can earn .25 high school credit, improve their ACT scores, and take the ACT for free on Saturday, June 8th.
Human Performance: Open to all freshmen through seniors, this program emphasizes the development of muscular strength, speed, and agility through weights and conditioning exercises. Students must complete at least 31.5 hours from May 28th through June 27th to be eligible to earn .25 credit. Sessions are offered in the mornings, with instructors communicating session options.

The Excelsior Springs Parks and Recreation and Community Center offers a variety of activities:
– Trips to the Kansas City Zoo on May 31st for children ages 0-12 and to the Disney 100 Excursion on June 28th. Both trips will be transported by the Chamber Trolley.
– Youth Tennis Camps: Held from June 3rd-7th (register by May 31st) and August 12th-16th (register by August 9th).
– Superhero Training Camp: On June 12th from 9am-2pm for kids ages 5-11, featuring exciting workouts, a delicious lunch, and a thrilling obstacle course.
– Free Movies in the Carolyn Schutte Pocket Park: Enjoy family-friendly movies all summer long.
– Storytime in the Park: In partnership with Mid-Continent Public Library, taking place all June and July.
Family Connections: An evidence-based strengthening families program, running Thursdays from June 6th to July 25th from 5:30pm-8:00pm. This program is meant for families with children ages 10-14.

Lake Doniphan Summer Camps
Lake Doniphan offers themed week-long day camps:
– Space Exploration
– Dive into Fairytales
– Pirate Adventure Week
– Wild Water Week
These camps feature educational activities and plenty of recreational time, including swimming in the camp’s pool, canoeing on Doniphan Lake, boating, fishing, and playing games. Sign up online to participate.

The Mid-Continent Public Library’s 2024 Summer at MCPL program, Telling Tales, celebrates sharing and reading stories of all kinds. Running from June 1st to August 24th, it encourages families to spend at least 20 minutes a day reading or engaging with literacy.
– Reading Rewards: Kids and adults can earn rewards and win prizes for daily reading and attending library programs. Readers will log each day they read to receive a daily reading badge. When readers aged 0-19 complete 20, 40, and 60 days of reading, they will earn a prize book from their local branch. Readers registered in Beanstack will also be eligible to earn prizes from community partners.
Vacation Bible Schools
Various local churches offer Vacation Bible Schools throughout the summer. These programs provide children with fun, faith-based activities and lessons.
Rayville Christian Union Church’s Breaker Rock Beach, June 3rd-7th.
Pisgah Baptist Church will have one July 14th titled Jungle Journey
Calvary Union has one that starts June 3rd-7th from 5:30-8:30pm at 438 Benton, Excelsior Springs
Union Baptist Church of Orrick will have one July 9th-13th from 6-8:30pm
Chandler Baptist Church will have Waves of Wonder set for July 9th-13th.
Crescent Lake Christian Center will have a Scuba themed event July 8th-11th from 6pm-8:45pm
VCU will have their school Outback Rock on June 26th-28th from 5:30pm-8:30pm
Excelsior Springs Baptist Church from June 23rd-27th from 6pm-8pm
Old Union Church in Lawson will have theirs July 21st-25th from 6-8:30pm. KC Wolf will make an appearance on July 25th for their closing.
This is all in addition to the wonderful local parks, Watkins Mill, the Splash Park, and Community Center pools, to have fun in, too! With such a wide range of activities, Excelsior Springs ensures that this summer will be filled with learning, fun, and unforgettable experiences for all our community’s youth!
