Mackenzie Hatfield, a sophomore at Excelsior Springs High School, has become a national champion in the boxing ring, showcasing her remarkable talent and dedication to the sport. Competing in the 2024 Silver Gloves National Boxing Championships held in Independence, Missouri, on February 2nd and 3rd, Hatfield triumphed over her peers to claim the prestigious title in her class.
An ESHS Principal’s Honor Roll student, Hatfield balances her academic pursuits with rigorous training in amateur boxing, a sport she has been devoted to for nearly two years. Her determination and hard work paid off spectacularly last weekend at the national championships.
On Friday, February 2nd, Hatfield entered the semi-finals, facing tough competition. Yet, her skill, strategy, and resilience were unmatched, leading her to win the match unanimously. This victory set the stage for the final showdown on Saturday, February 3rd, where she faced the number one ranked boxer in the nation in her class (Female, 15-16 years old, 165 lbs.).
With sheer talent and determination, Hatfield defeated her highly-ranked opponent, securing her position as the Silver Gloves National Champion. This win is not just a personal achievement for Hatfield but a moment of pride for Excelsior Springs, highlighting her as a rising star in amateur boxing.
The journey does not end here for the young champion. Next month, Hatfield is set to compete in the USA Boxing National Open in Albuquerque, New Mexico. With her recent national title, she has nothing to lose as she prepares for her next challenge.
