The City of Excelsior Springs kicked off efforts to develop a new comprehensive plan with a community forum on Sunday, April 28th. The Planning and Pizza Session, held at the Hall of Waters, drew approximately 20 residents alongside four council members.
The session aimed to educate the public about the importance of planning and the role a comprehensive plan plays in shaping the city’s growth and development. City staff and Olsson Studio, the consultant on the project, presented information and facilitated discussions on topics like zoning, land use, and how citizen input will influence the future of Excelsior Springs.
The current comprehensive plan was completed in December 2009. The plan includes a vision for the City, acting as a guidebook for city leaders, staff, and stakeholders to navigate. All aspects of the community will be evaluated, such as growth and land use, what life is like here currently, an overview of public services, housing, and even the character of the community. Implementation is also part of the plan, including those in the city who will be responsible for achieving the goals that have been set.
This session marks the first of two planned forums. The next Pizza and Planning event will be held on Thursday, May 16th at 6:00 pm at the Excelsior Springs Community Center and will cover the same topics, with pizza provided for attendees. Citizens can reserve online.
