Excelsior Springs Parks and Recreation Meets Tuesday

Excelsior Springs Parks and Recreation will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, August 28, 2024 at 6:00pm at the Excelsior Springs Community Center. 

Nine board members serve three year terms. Members include Council Liaison Reggie St. John, ESSD Liaison Eric Marshall, Sherri Branson-Hurt, Scott Buckman, Mark Bullimore, Patrick Halfhill, Terri Irons, Jessica Meyers, Jacob Simmons, Kyle Uptegrove, Zachary Wilkins

This Month’s Agenda:

Excelsior Springs Parks and Recreation Meeting Summary - July 23, 2024

Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by President Jake Simmons at 6:00 p.m.

Roll Call: Eight board members were present, with one member absent. City Council Liaison Reggie St. John and Excelsior Springs School District Liaison Eric Marshall were also in attendance.

Approval of Agenda and Minutes: The agenda and the minutes from the June 25, 2024, meeting were approved unanimously.

Financial Reports: The board reviewed and accepted the financial reports, including the balance sheet, budget report, and revenue report for the period ending July 16, 2024.

Staff Reports:

– Parks Maintenance and ongoing youth sports programs were discussed, with updates provided on the high attendance at the Rainbow Splash Park.

– The FEAT Performance program had 275 attendees in June, with sessions continuing in July.

Committee Reports:

– The Parks Committee proposed three names for the park on Milwaukee Street: “Our Backyard,” “Oak Haven Park,” and “Boundless Park.” After discussion, the board selected “Boundless BackYard” as the park’s official name.

– The Finance Committee is set to review the FY 2024-2025 budget in August.

Old Business: Parks and Rec month activities were highlighted, noting over 300 youth participants so far.

New Business:

– The installation of new signage at Siloam Springs Park was announced, with a dedication ceremony to follow which will be held in the near future.

– The board reviewed a proposal for a new mountain biking and hiking trail system, which would be developed in three phases and primarily maintained by volunteers.

– Downtown Excelsior Partnership (DEP) is interested in bringing the Opal Wapoo Race back.

Election of Officers: The board elected officers for 2024-2025, with Jake Simmons re-elected as President, Kyle Uptegrove as Vice President, and Terri Irons as Secretary.

Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 7:26 p.m.
