Excelsior Springs Job Corps Center to Hold First In-Person Graduation Ceremony Since Pandemic

Excelsior Springs Job Corps Center is thrilled to announce its first in-person graduation ceremony since before the pandemic. The ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 18, at 7 p.m. at the Excelsior Springs High School Performing Arts Center.

The event promises to be a memorable evening as graduates, staff, supporters, and members of the public come together to celebrate the achievements of the Job Corps students. This graduation marks a significant milestone for the center, highlighting the resilience and determination of the graduates, particularly in the face of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ceremony will feature a presentation by the Excelsior Springs Naval Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) cadets, showcasing their skills and dedication. Additionally, attendees will have the privilege of hearing a keynote speech by Ashley Dixon, the Retention Coordinator for the Kansas City International Airport New Terminal Project’s Workforce Training Program, and an employer partner of Excelsior Springs Job Corps. Dixon’s speech is expected to inspire and motivate the graduates as they embark on their future endeavors.

Lori Sams, the Director of Excelsior Springs Job Corps Center, expressed her pride in the graduating students. “We are incredibly proud of each and every graduate,” she said. “This ceremony is a celebration of our students’ journey to overcome barriers and achieve their goals. When we see them walk across the graduation stage, we can see the impact of this program, coupled with a caring and dedicated staff, and how it can change the course of a young person’s life.”

The graduation ceremony is open to employers, prospective students, and the general public who wish to join in the celebration. Excelsior Springs Job Corps Center offers career technical training in ten different areas, including Business Construction Technology, Carpentry, Cement Masonry, Certified Nurse Assistant, Clinical Medical Assistant, Culinary Arts, Medical Administrative Assistant, Painting, Security and Protective Services, and Welding. The program equips eligible 16- through 24-year-olds with the skills and education necessary for higher-paying careers and higher education opportunities. Notably, the Job Corps program is free of charge for students.
